International Friendship Day: Elijah and Kian’s Friendship.

The 30th July is International Friendship Day – a day to celebrate the beauty and importance of friendship. It’s a reminder of the strength of the bonds we make and how the connections we build can bring people and communities closer together. 

At Act4Africa, friendship is at the heart of everything we do. Every day, new friendships are formed and lasting bonds grow, particularly among the children at Kathy’s Kindergarten.

Elijah and Kian are two friends you simply cannot miss when you step into Kathy’s. They share everything, genuinely care for one another and are always looking out for eachother. While helping Kian tuck in his shirt, Elijah says, “He doesn’t know how to tuck in his shirt because he is still a baby.” It’s a simple moment, but one that perfectly captures the care and consideration that defines their friendship.

When you first meet the pair, you might think they are brothers — and although they are not related, in many ways they are. Elijah always introduces Kian as his brother and despite being in different classes, with Kian in Baby Class and Elijah in Top class, their friendship has remained as strong as ever. Whether they’re sharing meals, walking together or playing happily side by side, they are rarely apart.

This friendship is a wonderful reminder of the meaningful connections that can begin and flourish at Kathy’s Kindergarten. In an environment where children feel loved, respected, and encouraged, they learn not only to read, write, and play, but also to care for others, and build friendships that shape the people they become.
